From this weekend people will enjoy the opportunity to support the McGrath Foundation and breast cancer nurses through a special fundraising promotion organised by Garden Centres of SA through its member 12 garden centres.
Right through March the promotion will be happening, culminating in a big weekend of activities on March 29 and 30, with the aim of raising at least $10,000 for the cause through fundraising activities.
It is the second year of the fundraising which was prompted last year by a member of one of its members’ families being diagnosed with breast cancer earlier in 2024.
Samantha Bartsch , only 37, underwent treatment and was strongly supported by the McGrath Foundation care nurse and her husband Daniel and their families, as well as all the staff at Barossa Nursery, which is owned by the Bartsch family.
“The group decided to show some solidarity and support for the cause, as cancer has struck our communities in many different ways. Garden centres have lots of pink flowers so Strike Me Pink has been the result!” says Group spokesperson, Neville Sloss.
Fundraising will take many forms – from counting pink jelly beans in a jar, to raffles, to part proceeds from the sale of pink plants going to the cause.
“Staff will be dressed in pink, special prizes for people dressed in pink and donation boxes will be on hand. Apart from fundraising we all intend to have lots of fun along the way, especially on the final weekend of March!”
McGrath Foundation now supports care for all cancer patients so we decided that we would support it again as our special community event of the year.”
